Schedule Listed below you can find a tentative schedule for the first week of the 2007 program. The schedule will be replaced by more up-to-date versions as times and dates for different activities get finalized. Week 1: 5/14 – 5/18 § Monday, May 14, 2007 – Welcome and Orientation
o Welcoming remarks. o Introduction of participating faculty and mentors o Introduction of participating students o Description of REU program, activities, expectations. o Open discussion on research: what constitutes a research project? How does it differ from a regular course assignment? What are the basic steps to follow when tackling a project for the first time? o Lunch with faculty and mentors o 2:00PM – Preliminary survey and survey of expectations o 3:00PM – Employment paperwork; travel reimbursement paperwork (245 DHE) o 4:00PM – campus tour (101 North Foundation Hall) § Tuesday, May 15, 2007 – Project Descriptions
o Boxed Lunch o 2:00 – 3:00PM – Tour of library and online resources (255A Kresge) o Library study hour § Wednesday, May 16, 2007 – Project Selection o Start at 9:30AM o Open discussion with faculty on projects o Survey on project preference o Project assignment o Apply for ID card § Friday, May 18, 2007– Seminar and Picnic (with faculty and industrial mentors)
Week 10: 7/16 – 7/20 § Tuesday, July 17, 2007 – Final Project Presentations § Thursday, July 19, 2007 – Farewell lunch § Friday, July 20, 2007 - Last day; final deliverables due
